What is an MRI?

Magnetic Resonance Imaging, or “MRI,” is a dynamic technique combining a magnetic field, radio waves, and computers to produce extremely detailed 2D or 3D images of the human body. MRI is safe, comfortable, and painless. It uses no radiation and there are no known side effects.

What will the MRI exam be like?

The exam usually takes between 20-45 minutes, depending on the type of imaging being done. However, you should allow extra time in case the exam lasts longer than expected. Our High Field MRI System has a patient-friendly, spacious design. You will not feel anything during your exam. You can listen to a selection of music or bring along your favorite CD. You will be in contact with the technologist at all times. Even when he or she is not in the room, you will be able to talk to him or her by intercom. Remember that it is important to lie very still during your exam. As in photography, any movement will blur the images.
